Round 1. JUDGING CRITERIA
We aspire to make the contest as open, accessible and fair as possible to eligible entrants. The decision to visit bars to taste the entries is to encourage maximum participation from as broad a spectrum of bartenders as possible.
Round 1.
In Round 1 we’re looking for the whole drink’s experience. The delivery of the cocktail, including technical aspects of the drink’s preparation, will be taken into account. Since Round 1 takes place in entrants’ home bars in South Australia (i.e. their place of work), we hope that people will feel comfortable to give the best account of themselves and their abilities. A total of 100 points are available in Round 1 – broken down under the following headings:
25 Points: Bartending: Technique, flow, hygiene, hospitality organisation. Delivery.
25 Points: The Concept: Theme originality, creativity and narrative.
50 Points: The Serve: Aesthetics and Aroma (10 Points) / Taste (40 Points).
Feedback will be provided after the judging of Round 1, and 16 finalists will be invited to the final event.
JUDGING
- All submissions will initially be reviewed by Australian Distilling Co. to ensure each entrant is eligible to complete and has fully completed their entry on Australian Distilling Co.’s website in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and other rules published by Australian Distilling Co. on Australian Distilling Co.’s website (“Initial Check”).
- Reviewed submissions that pass the Initial Check will then be judged by a judging panel, which will visit the bar of each entrant on a date in early 2022 to be advised. Australian Distilling Co. reserves the right to vary or add to these dates for the judging of Round 1.
- There will be a panel of judges for Round 1 and The Final. Not all will visit entrants’ bars at the same time (or at all), but all will judge the final together. In the event of complications, suitable additional or replacement judges determined by Australian Distilling Co. may be used during Round 1 or during the final to ensure all drinks are tasted and marked against the same criteria.
Competition and Prizing
Round 1 will be judged in entrants’ home bars in early 2022, on a date to be advised. From there, 16 finalists will be selected to compete in the final which will be held at Bank Street Social at 48 Hindley Street, Adelaide SA 5000. Australian Distilling Co. reserves the right to change the date and location of the final.
The Final – your time to shine!
During the final, 16 competitors will compete in sets of 4 in a first round. During this round, the only factor being judged is the quality of the drink as there will be no presentation element. After that, for a final round the 2 bartenders with the highest score will be selected to compete one after the other. A full set of judging criteria will be used for this final round of the final determined by Australian Distilling Co.
The prizes, which will be awarded at the final, will be as follows:
- 1st. $5000 Cash Prize to the leading bartender and 10L of Adelaide Gin for their bar
- 2nd. $1000 Cash Prize
- 3rd. $500 Cash Prize
